Throughout the 20th century, the people of Ireland endured cultural, social, and political upheaval. The novelists, playwrights, and poets whose works we will examine this quarter will shed some light on how Irish literature flourished over the course of a tumultuous century. Prev ENGL 130. What are vampires, and why are they so fascinating? What do they teach us about ourselves, our race and gender, our psychology and social standing? English 221: The Vampire is a survey of classical and contemporary literature, music, art and film concerned with vampires. Recommended: ENGL& 101 (prev ENGL 101) or ENGL 201 or a literature course in the 100 series.
