Graphic Production Artist Job Description
Department: Institutional Advancement/Printing Services, Hourly, Part-Time
Starting Salary: $25-30/hour DOE
Job Summary: The graphic production artist is responsible for providing layout solutions for college and outside clientele while establishing and upholding institutional design standards. Primary responsibilities include layout, design and consultation services for a variety of printed materials. The work of the graphic production artist is overseen by the senior graphic designer. This position reports to the Director of Marketing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of applicable college-level training in graphic design, or equivalent art school training;
- Two years of experience in graphics production/design and related computer application programs – OR – an equivalent combination of experience and training (training and experience with graphics intended for printing) to include a minimum of (four) 4 years experience;
- Proficiency working in a Macintosh environment with a thorough knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop and a working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Acrobat;
- Experience working in a Windows environment with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products;
- Knowledge of the offset printing process in regards to digital production of graphics files.
Preferred Qualifications
- A combination of production and design experience, working on entire projects from start to finish;
- Experience working with in-house production staff including copy and print equipment and personnel;
- Experience preparing files for press using pre-press equipment, trapping, CTP and color proofing;
- Experience working with display graphics, such as banners, directional signs, and product displays;
- Knowledge of proper grammar and punctuation writing conventions;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Knowledge or experience designing for the web.

Essential Job Functions
- Digitally produce artwork for publications such as brochures, posters, signs, and other educational materials, using a variety of techniques;
- Produce large, multi-page publications, primarily through the formatting and pagination of text to produce quarterly class schedules, newsletter, catalogs, student handbooks, etc.;
- Prepare graphic files with a Macintosh computer using industry standard software including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat;
- Consult with faculty, staff, editors, or other clients regarding graphic design to determine appropriate and economical format;
- Maintain multiple projects simultaneously adhering closely to project due dates, budget and quality standards;
- Assist in scheduling and project management of major publications;
Accurately track time and functions performed on projects for the purpose of recharging the customer;
- Ensure the back-up of graphics files to the server daily and upon completion of each job;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that averages 20 hours/week with seasonal fluctuations;
- Perform related duties as required.
