Activities to Accomplish Objective:

 

  1. Work with EPC members and other campus leaders of Pluralism efforts to discuss and define the mission and objectives of the EPC.
  2. Outline the expectations of EPC members regarding the leadership co-chairs role for the EPC.

OBJECTIVE: Committee Recruitment and Retention

 

Activities to Accomplish Objective:

 

  1. Seek out additional members for the EPC by tapping the resources (connections to others), of EPC members, advertise/solicit members if necessary. 
  2. Encourage retention by increasing committee members’ involvement in EPC objectives and by exercising an open, communicative leadership style.

OBJECTIVE: Provide Guidance to HR on Pluralism

 

Activities to Accomplish Objective:

 

  1. Review quarterly reports supplied by HR and recommend additional strategies to increase the diversity of applicant pools.
  2. Focus on including diversity measures/requirements in job descriptions.
  3. Recommend additional elements of supervisory training for working effectively with diverse employees.
  4. Read and discuss diversity training, retention, and separation issues.
  5. Research and clarify current BCC recruitment, hiring, mentoring, evaluation processes, and separation data.
  6. Revise and provide recommendations on hiring processes as needed.

OBJECTIVE: Support Pluralism Trainings

 

Activities to Accomplish Objective:

 

  1. Assist with recruitment of participants at Pluralism training opportunities.
  2. Support college in efforts to develop and provide for the continued education of Pluralism Advocates and other related trainings.
  3. Sponsor pluralism related workshops during Staff Professional Development Day &/or College Issues Day. ($500)

Instructional Pluralism Committee (IPC)

  • Begin January 2008: Hold bi-quarterly Open Forum Discussions of case studies in cross-cultural conflict that occurs in classrooms. Sessions scheduled for Week 3 and Week 8 of each quarter
  • January 2008: Establish regular communication in Faculty Newsletter 564
  • January 2008: Implement Library Session #2: David Oar presentation of diversity/pluralism resources available in the Library Media Center (LMC); instruction provided to assist faculty in use of databases to search for diverse/pluralistic materials
  • January 2008: Begin planning Gracious Space workshop
  • Spring 2008: Library Session #3: David Oar/IPC workshop on “diversifying” assignments

Student Pluralism Committee (SPC)

  • Begin Fall 2007: Implement Student Pluralism Liaisons with each student club, and appoint a Student Pluralism Liaison Coordinator
  • Begin Fall 2007: Start collaboration with Living Treasures (LT) planners to ensure continuation of student recognition for the May 02, 2008, LT Celebration
  • January 2008: Plan student focus groups to look into campus climate.
