Not Just Ramps
Washington state passed October as Disability History month! October has nationally for years been celebrated as disability awareness month so the passage of this bill in our state to honor disability history is fitting.
In honor of Disability History month, Bellevue Community College planned a lively event that was performed twice in the Carlson Theater by a theatrical group entitled It Had To Be Productions (NOT JUST RAMPS).
NOT JUST RAMPS was a collection of vignettes regarding actual individuals who experience a range of differing disabilities. The stories presented their reflections, their points of view and their fun loving, robust senses of humor. The actors were true to the message intended –all people have similar dreams and aspirations.
Through art, NOT JUST RAMPS, helped us debunk myths and tear down barriers and stereotypes regarding disability.
The performances were interpreted for the Deaf.
