How to Register for 2009-2010 Classes

Enrichment Classes

For: children who are three through six years old by August 31st for the school year beginning each fall quarter

Overview

To further enrich your child's preschool experience, the Parent Education Department at Bellevue College (BC) offers unique Enrichment Classes for children. These classes include days for parents to assist the teacher in the classroom and a version of Parent Education to match the age of the children involved.

Each of these classes offers an explosion of activities to excite the mind and growing interest of the preschool-kindergarten aged child. Whichever class you choose, your child is certain to burst forth with enthusiasm for the creative discoveries he makes through full, hands-on participation.

Parents and children learning and growing together... Participating in the Bellevue College Parent Education classes is a wonderful way to show your child that learning is fun and something you value so highly you are willing to share the experience with him or her.

Creative Development Lab (CDL)

Creative Development Lab is a one day per week art enrichment class for three to five year olds, including kindergartners. Each week we offer a new curriculum theme for the children's program with a large variety of art activities. Creative Development Lab is a cooperative program with parents helping in the classroom six times during the school year.  Parents also attend classes regarding parenting and family life issues.  Two Parent Education classes are held each month while the children are in class, and parents choose one that fits their schedule best.  Attendance at one class each month is required.  Parents will need to make child care arrangements for non-enrolled siblings during their classroom helper days and their parent education day.

Class visitations are not available during the summer months.

Your child should be 3 by August 31, 2009. Younger children will be admitted on a space-available basis. Kindergarten children may attend the class. Siblings from the same family may attend if they meet the birth date requirement. Priority will be: 1) parent/child currently enrolled in Creative Development Lab; 2) parent/child currently enrolled in another BC Parent Education class; 3) new students.

Discovery Lab

The Discovery Lab is a one day per week science class for five, six and seven year olds.  Each week students will have the opportunity to conduct experiments, perform simple dissections, and make creative science projects.  Discovery Lab aims to introduce science as an enjoyable and accessible investigation of the world around us.  Topics for the year include:  chemistry, geology, marine biology, space and rockets, and environmental issues.  One of the highlights of the year is an overnight field trip.  Parent education classes are held once a month during the children’s class time.  Parent education focuses on topics relevant to elementary school-age children including development, social issues, guidance and communication.  Parents are required to assist in the children’s classroom six times per year, including providing a snack once a year.

For the 2009-2010 school year, classes will meet at Robinswood Barn, located in Robinswood Park, across from the Bellevue College (BC) campus.

In order to join the fun, your child must be at least 5 but no older than 7 by August 31, 2009.
