Baseball Hall-of-Famer Tommy Lasorda
to speak, sign autographs at BCC Jan. 23
BELLEVUE, WASH. - Hall-of-Fame baseball coach Tommy Lasorda will be the keynote speaker Jan. 23 at Bellevue Community College's Baseball Pre-Season Dinner.
Lasorda will also be available for autographs and photos both before and after the dinner.
The public event begins at 6 p.m. in the college's cafeteria, located in the C Building (next to the fountain) on the college's main campus (3000 Landerholm Circle S.E., Bellevue, at the intersection
of S.E. 28th St. and 148th Ave. S.E.).
Tickets are $75, with proceeds from the event going to support BCC's baseball program.
Tommy Lasorda compiled a 1,599-1,439 record and won two World Championships, four National League pennants and eight division titles in an extraordinary 20-year career as the Dodgers' manager.
He has remained with the Dodgers since his retirement from coaching in 1996, and now serves as Special Advisor to the Chairman on all areas of Dodger operations and as an international ambassador for the team.
Lasorda was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997 as a manager in his first year of eligibility.
During the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, Lasorda coached an underdog United States baseball team to the gold medal over the highly favored Cuban national team just five days after celebrating
his 73rd birthday.
As a minor league pitcher he once struck out 25 batters in a 15-inning game, a pro-baseball record that remains unbroken.
ABOUT BCC BASEBALL
The BCC Bulldog baseball program has been recognized as one of the best in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years.
The team ranked 18th in the nation in 2007 and has not had a losing season since the early 1980s.
Over the past decade, under head coach Mark Yoshino, 38 BCC players have been drafted into professional baseball, one of the highest totals among all two-year colleges nationally.
BCC's baseball program also maintains one of the top graduation rates among all Northwest community college sports teams, and on average sends nine players each year to the four-year level for higher
academic and athletic opportunities.
