“Storytelling With Technology” workshop
will assist tribal communities in
creating Native-language materials
BELLEVUE -- A three-day workshop designed to put digital production tools in the hands of tribal communities for the purpose of documenting, expressing and sharing their respective cultures, will be held at Bellevue Community College March 27-29.
Titled “Storytelling With Technology - Publishing,” the workshop will provide hands-on training in how to create Native-language storybooks, calendars and newsletters through use of Microsoft Publisher software, scanning technology and Native-language computer keyboards.
During the three-day event, tribal community members will work directly with instructors and take part in hands-on lab activities designed to enhance language revitalization efforts at the local level. Participants with technology experience are urged to team up with Native speakers from the same community to enrich the total technology and language learning experience.
Tribal community members can register for the workshop via the ILI website, http://ilinative.org/index.html. Preference will be given to those who register on or before March 5.
The workshop is the seventh in a series of such events produced around the nation by the Indigenous Language Institute (ILI) and IBM Coporation. It is sponsored locally by the Center for Liberal Arts at Bellevue Community College.
