BCC math team places in national top ten -- again

Douglas Sherbon ties for 11th out of 10,000 competitors nationally

BELLEVUE, WASH. - For the tenth time in the past 11 years, Bellevue Community College math students have placed in the top ten nationally -- finishing in 7th place -- in the annual American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges' Student Math League competition.

 

BCC student Douglas Sherbon, of Issaquah, tied for 11th nationally in individual rankings, while also placing second regionally.

 

About 10,000 students, from 184 colleges across the U.S., entered the two-round competition.

 

BCC's team also placed first in the three-state region, made up of Washington, Idaho and Oregon.

 

Other BCC students placing high regionally included Hyung-Soo Zhang, of Bellevue, 4th place; Brian Park, of Bellevue, 6th; Dong Hyuk Yim, of Mercer Island, tied for 9th; Abdulrahman Salama, of Kirkland, 14th; Niko Simonson, of Redmond, 15th; and Kevin Ren, of Issaquah, and Gunsuk Lee, of Snoqualmie, tied for 16th.
