Fulbright program brings Argentine
scholar-in-residence to BCC

BELLEVUE, WASH.– For the fifth consecutive year Bellevue Community College (BCC) will host an International Scholar in Residence under the auspices of the prestigious Fulbright academic exchange programs of the U.S. State Department.

This year’s Fulbright award will bring Lucia Zuppa, of Argentina, to BCC for the 2007-08 school year.

Zuppa will teach Spanish as part of the college’s World Languages Department and will also be available as a speaker and resource for the college and community on topics including Latin American music, dance and literature.

She holds a degree in English instruction from Argentina’s Instituto de Formación Docenta Contínua and a diploma in teaching Spanish as a foreign language from Asociación Argentina Docentes del Español

Zuppa comes to BCC through a grant from the Fulbright Foreign Language Teacher Assistant program.

Last year BCC became one of the first two community colleges ever to be selected to participate in this particular Fulbright program.

BCC, through its Center for Liberal Arts, has hosted an International Scholar in Residence in each of the past five years. Previous scholars have come from Tibet, Nigeria, Brazil, Morocco and Oman.

BCC’s Center for Liberal Arts was established in 2002 to enrich the educational experience of students, the professional development of faculty and the cultural life of the surrounding community. The Center encourages liberal arts studies; fosters civic engagement; promotes excellence in research, scholarship and teaching; and presents public arts and cultural programs.

To arrange a community presentation by Ms. Zuppa, contact the BCC Center for Liberal Arts at (425) 564-2550 or srush@bcc.ctc.edu.
