1930s Dust Bowl the focus of two free, public events at
BCC
BELLEVUE, WASH. – Bellevue Community College’s Center
for Liberal Arts has announced two free, public multimedia
presentations as part of its yearlong BCC Reads! focus
on the book, The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of
Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl, by Timothy
Egan.
BCC annually selects one BCC Reads! book to be incorporated in interdisciplinary fashion into as many courses as possible across the curriculum.
The upcoming events are:
Oct. 1 – Dec. 12
Photo exhibit: “The Dust Bowl”
Location: BCC Library Media Center (in Building D off the south courtyard
of BCC’s main campus. Library hours are 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Mon. – Thurs; 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Fri,., and 10 a.m. – 5
p.m. Sat. Closed Sundays.)
“The Dust Bowl” exhibit pairs 1930s photographs with interviews and photos by
Nebraskan Bill Ganzel, who set out in the 1970s to find Dust Bowl survivors.
The exhibit is sponsored by Humanities Texas, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities; BCC Student Programs; and the BCC Center for Liberal Arts.

Drama: Journey from the Dust by Rachel Atkins, performed
by Living Voices
Location: BCC Library Event Center (in Building
D off the south courtyard of BCC’s main campus)
This interactive multimedia presentation combines theater, video
and live performance to tell the stories of American families who endured
the Dust Bowl and the stock market crash of 1929.
The presentation is sponsored by Living Voices, BCC Student Programs
and the BCC Center for Liberal Arts.
