International honor society awards go to BCC president, student, instructor
BELLEVUE, WASH.- BCC President Jean Floten was accorded a national honor, while BCC student Daphne Ng and Psychology Instructor Virginia Bridwell received regional awards, from Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society at its world-wide convention in Seattle April 20-22.
BCC's Alpha Epsilon Rho campus chapter of PTK garnered five regional awards.
Floten received PTK's national Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, recognizing her support of BCC's Alpha Epsilon Rho chapter of PTK and her commitment to promote the society statewide and internationally.
Ng, a Kirkland resident who is the BCC chapter's vice president for scholarship, was named Distinguished Chapter Officer for the region. Ng was honored for her work in helping to develop a peer-to-peer mentoring program for the campus, coordinating student success workshops, and developing seminars on a variety of controversial topics of popular culture.
Bridwell, who is faculty advisor to the BCC chapter of PTK, received the regional Outstanding Service Award for her logistical work in support of the convention.
BCC's Alpha Epsilon Rho Chapter as a whole won the Distinguished Chapter Award for dynamic involvement in PTK activities including the Seattle convention; the Leadership and Service Hallmark Awards, both recognizing outstanding community service activities (such as fielding a Relay for Life team, co-sponsoring a seminar on sexual minorities; and raising funds to buy computers for a school in Bulgaria), and the Pinnacle Platinum and Silver Awards, in recognition of significant three-year and one-year membership growth.
The BCC chapter also was awarded renewed five-star status, signifying the highest level of accomplishment.
