What does chocolate have to do with the environment? Find out at BCC's Earth Week Celebration April 18 - 22
BELLEVUE, WASH. - Bellevue Community College presents its sixth annual Earth Week - a series of 14 lectures plus films, displays and a hands-on environmental improvement project - from April 18 through 22 on the college campus.
It is believed to be the largest Earth Week celebration in the greater Seattle area this year.
Among other lectures, participants will hear BCC Anthropology Instructor Nancy Gonlin speak on "Chocolate, the Ancient Maya and Environmental Degradation" (Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.).
On Earth Day, Friday, April 22, participants will have the opportunity to help restore the Mercer Slough Wetland in Bellevue, in conjunction with the City of Bellevue Stream Team and Bellevue Parks.
In addition, fifteen environmental organizations will be on hand with displays throughout the week. BCC Interior Design students will display environment-friendly building materials and concepts. And the BCC Cafeteria will offer organic menu items, as well as free samples of organic foods from local vendors.
All events are free and open to the public. Lectures and films will be presented in Room C130 on Bellevue Community College's main campus (3000 Landerholm Circle SE, Bellevue, off 148th Ave. S.E.).
