BCC math students place first in NW, 7th in nation
BELLEVUE, WASH. – Bellevue Community College students have placed first in the Northwest region and seventh in the nation in the 2003 American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges math contest.
It was the fifth year in a row that BCC students placed first in the region, which includes Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
In the region’s individual results, BCC student Joel Nishimura tied for first, Wang Lu tied for third, Kalin Gyokov placed fifth, and Zhi Xu earned seventh place. All are from Bellevue.
More than 150 colleges nationwide take part annually in the competition, which involves three rounds of tests.
Serving more than 22,000 students each quarter, Bellevue Community College is the third largest institution of higher learning in Washington state. BCC offers associate degrees, certificates and continuing education programs in the traditional arts, humanities and sciences, as well as information technology, telecommunications, business, health sciences, social sciences, educational development and numerous professional and technical fields.
