BCC Math Dept. selected as "exemplary program"
BELLEVUE, WASH. - The Bellevue Community College (BCC) Math Department has been selected as one of just 10 departments nationwide to take part in a National Science Foundation-funded conference on exemplary mathematics programs.
BCC Math Dept. Chair Lynne Sage, of Bellevue, and instructor David Stacy, of Issaquah, will describe BCC's work in creating a class specifically for students who intend to continue on to the University of Washington (UW) Computer Science Program after completing their two-year Associate degree at BCC.
Called Finite Math for Information Technology, the five-credit course was designed in collaboration with faculty from the UW program and has been kept updated with their cooperation since the course debuted five years ago.
The conference, to be held Sept. 16-19 in Las Vegas, is sponsored by the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges, with funding from the National Science Foundation under a grant entitled, "Technical Mathematics for Tomorrow: Recommendations and Exemplary Programs."
