Sciences get new $34 million facility

March 13, 2009, Bellevue Reporter

   Sparks were flying and beakers bubbling as Bellevue Community College opened its new $34 million science building with tours and lab demonstrations on Mar. 11.
   BCC now has 11 instructional buildings on its 96-acre campus in southeast Bellevue.
   The newest facility, a three-story, 64,000-square foot complex dubbed the “S Building,” is home to life sciences and chemistry programs.

   BCC's new "S Building," housing life sciences and chemistry programs, is the college's eleventh instructional facility.
   The building's exterior design minimizes the “heat island effect,” in which a building reflects heat from the sun back into the atmosphere, affecting local climates.


BCC wants more 4-year degrees

    (AP)The president of Bellevue Community College says she doesn't have any plans to transform the large commuter school into a four-year university across Lake Washington from the University of Washington, but she is asking lawmakers to allow her school to offer more advanced degrees.

Fulbright program brings Tunisian
scholar-in-residence to BCC

    For the sixth consecutive year Bellevue Community College (BCC) is welcoming an International Scholar in Residence under the auspices of the prestigious Fulbright academic exchange programs of the U.S. State Department.
    This year’s Fulbright award has brought Akrem Rebhi, of the North African country of Tunisia, to BCC for the 2008-09 school year.

Drama students, play honored by Kennedy Center
Feb. 5, 2009
    The Washington, D.C.-based John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has awarded Certificates of Merit to four Bellevue Community College drama students.
    The Center also selected BCC’s production of the play, “7 Minutes to Midnight,” by BCC instructor and professional playwright/director Dennis Schebetta, to be performed at the Center’s American College Theatre Region VII Festival Feb. 16-20.
