What is a Scholarly Journal?

When researching for a class project, you may be asked to find scholarly journal articles. The first thing you need to know is what you are looking for.

A scholarly journal:

  • contains original experiments or research in a specific subject
  • provides articles that have been evaluated and approved by experts
  • is meant to inform others working in the same field as to what is new

Scholarly journals can also be called "Peer Reviewed Journals"
since they are reviewed by peers (experts) in a field before publication.
