Searching for MediaHere is a quick guide on how to search the BC catalog for media materials:Go to the LMC Webpage and find the Library Catalogs link. Click on the link that reads "BC Library Catalog." Looking for materials by Topic: When looking for media materials, the first thing you want to do is change the "Limit To" to "Videos/DVDs." This will exclude books from your search. Make sure that you are searching within "All Fields" and type your topic into the "Search" box. For videos, as long as you limit to Videos/DVDs, an "All Fields" search should meet your needs. Looking for materials by Title: This is illustrated in the following image. Change the "Limit To" to Videos/DVDs as you did for a topic search. Next, make sure you are searching within "Title begins with." This will tell the catalog that you are only interested in items with a particular title. A title search works best when you know the exact title of the video you are looking for. |
Searching for Movies (Feature Films): Use the Videos/DVDs "Limit To" as above, but search within "Subject Heading" for "feature films." You will find a list of over 300 films and movies that are part of the Library Media Center's collection. Remember that this search will only find feature films. It won't find documentaries or other videos that we have in the collection. Searching for Media Reserve items: If your instructor has items on reserve, you can easily find them by searching the library catalog. There are two ways to search for reserve items. One way to search is by clicking on the "Course Reserve" search tab and look for materials by your instructor name or course name. Another way to search is demonstrated below. Be sure to select "All Material." Search within "Call Number" for "mres"; followed by your instructor's last name (example: mres sutler). This will tell the catalog that you want media reserve (mres) items for your instructor (example: Sutler-Cohen).
We hope these easy tips will help you find the media materials you are looking for. We and the materials can be found in D-126. If you need more assistance finding media materials, see us in the Media Center, or ask friendly and helpful reference librarians to assist you. |
