Summary In this activity, students will read an excert from an original work. Four paragraphs paraphrasing the original are presented, and students must determine which are appropriate and which are plagiarism. This activity was originally created by Scott Bessho, who has granted permission for its use. |

Purpose The purpose of this activity is to help students avoid plagiarism. While students may understand that plagiarism is unacceptable, they may not know how to appropriately paraphrase information. This activity will help students understand what is and isn't acceptable and why. Through practice, students will be much less likely to inadvertently plagiarize.
