Request a Book

What can you do if another student has checked out a book that you need?

The BCC Library Media Center Online Catalog allows you to place a hold on a book. This means that as soon as the book is returned to the library, a staff member will call you to let you know that the book is available.

To Request a Book:

  1. Search the library catalog for the book you want to request.
[If you're not sure how to do this, click here.]
  2. Display the full catalog description for the item you want to request by clicking on the title of the item.
  3. In the toolbar at the top of the catalog screen, click on the "Request Item" button.
  4. Enter your student ID number (the same one you use to check out books in the library) and your last name.
  5. Click on the "Login" button.
  6. On the next screen, select "Hold" under "Please Choose the Type of Request".
  7. Click on the "OK" button.

The next screen displays the title of the book you have requested.

  1. If there is more than 1 copy of the book, click in the circle next to "Any Copy". This will place a hold on the first copy of the book that is returned to the library.
  2. Enter your student ID number (the same one you use to check out books in the library).
  3. If you are placing a hold on a book, select "CIRCULATION DESK" next to "Pick Up At:".
  4. If you won't need the book after a certain date, enter the number of days until that date next to "Not Needed After".
  5. Click the "Submit Request"button.
