Here are the elements of a newspaper article citation:
  • Author
  • Date
  • Newspaper Article Title
  • Title of Newspaper
  • Page Number
Start your citation with the author's name, followed by the date in parenthesis. Format the date in the following way: Year, Month Day. Example (2008, January 22)

Following the date, write the title of the newspaper article. Do not italicize or underline the article title!

Next comes the title of the newspaper. Make sure you italicize the newspaper title, Follow the newspaper title with a comma.

Note: Capitalize all the words in the newspaper title.

The final element in your citation is the page the article appears on in the newspaper. My article is on page E8. If my article started on page E8 and then continued on another page, I would cite it as E8, E11.

Since newspaper articles don't always list an author, here's an example of a newspaper article citation with no author. If there is no author, start your citation with the article title.
