POSITION SUMMARY

The BC Science and Math Institute (SAMI) Program Manager will be responsible for developing new and innovative programs with the primary purpose of promoting math and science to the community at large, students on campus and prospective students in particular, along with assisting with retention efforts in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) areas. The SAMI Program Manager will report directly to the Science Division Chair and will work closely with the SAMI Steering Committee. The SAMI Steering Committee, with members from BC and the community, will provide guidance and support for program development, operations and evaluation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a science or math related field
  • Demonstrated excellent and effective communication skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Computer skills needed for creating brochures and developing/maintaining a website 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of age groups
  • Demonstrated commitment to a culturally diverse work and community environment

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing and coordinating educational programs and/or community events.
  • Educational experiences with students of various ages through teaching, teaching assistant work, graduate work, outreach programs, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Science Division Chair and the Steering Committee to develop SAMI’s annual and long-term plans that will include program goals, strategies for achieving goals and specific performance measures.
  • Foster retention of science students by coordinating with existing college programs, supporting programs/initiatives known to impact retention and devising targeted new programs both on campus and in partnership with outside institutions.
  • Work with Science Division faculty to develop and promote community outreach events including Earth Week, science demonstrations, Summer Science Camp, planetarium shows, etc.
  • Develop connections with middle school and high school science and math faculty.
  • Develop and coordinate campus science, math and technology focused tours for potential students interested in math and science, as well as high school faculty.
  • Maintain the SAMI@BC website to promote what BC has to offer in the sciences and also list events available to the community.
  • Develop, in consultation with faculty, appropriate outreach brochures promoting BC Science, Math and Engineering programs and events sponsored by the SAMI.
  • Coordinate and promote Math/Science Colloquia.
  • Communicate regularly with the campus and the community about SAMI’s programs. 
  • Track and manage SAMI’s budget.
  • Develop and maintain strong community, university and high school partnerships.
  • Create events and activities to support interest in math and science on campus and in the community.

 

SALARY

The salary range is $45,222 - $54,267 with placement based on education and related experience.
