DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The Information Technology and Management Institute at Bellevue College is a teaching and research unit, responsible for delivering professional/technical education that integrates the newest research relating to computer technology and effective teaching and learning. The educational offerings and research are known locally, state-wide, and nationally for their innovation and excellence. The Executive Director will oversee both course offerings (including about 20 Full time and 45 Part time faculty) and research grants (about 4 researchers/project managers) and is responsible for maintaining and generating relationships at the local, state, and national level. This position requires travel.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director of the Institute is responsible for overall teaching and learning leadership, business management, and strategic direction. Reporting to the Executive Dean of Instruction and to the Vice President of Workforce Development, the Institute Executive Director provides academic and instructional leadership, and fulfills business development and workforce goals and plans. As a member of the college's senior instructional team, the Institute Executive Director upholds the college's vision, mission, and goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Two years of experience in management and supervision
  • Two years of experience teaching in a higher education setting
  • Two years of industry experience in a business or technology related organization

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding and knowledge of trends in higher education and technology applications in business/industry
  • Documented success in entrepreneurship and building revenues through innovative market-driven activities
  • Demonstrated grant writing and grant administration experience
  • Demonstrated experience with budgetary processes and financial statements
  • Demonstrated experience with adult learners
  • Demonstrated background in instructional design and/or curriculum development

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Strategic Planning & Development

  • Oversees short and long range strategic planning for Bellevue College’s management and technology instructional programs, as well as the National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies (NWCET) and the Washington Center of Excellence for Information Technology, both housed at Bellevue College.
  • Develops opportunities for new and revised programs based on workforce demand, technology innovation and market trends.
  • Develops business strategies that define the Institute and refine its core mission and goals, while executing that strategy through sound practices and responsible fiscal operations.
  • Provides leadership for the State Center of IT Excellence including: economic/workforce development, collaborating with other centers and disseminating best practices.

 

Instructional Leadership:

  • Provides leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship in meeting the needs of the community and in accordance with requirements of the state and the college's accrediting association.
  • Ensures high quality instructional programs for student learning and its assessment by establishing standards and processes for program planning, review, assessment, evaluation and modification in collaboration with other program leads.
  • Leads efforts for the effective recruitment, selection, retention, development, and evaluation of Institute faculty.
  • Participates in the college enrollment management process by planning and producing an annual schedule of Institute classes which meet the education needs of students within assigned budget and staffing parameters, including compliance with the state's allocation of funds, student quotas and monitoring of expenditures and enrollment.
  • Manages student concerns and student grievance process regarding faculty, course content, and grading practices.

 

Outreach/Community Leadership:

  • Identifies, establishes, and maintains strategic relationships with business and industry, professional associations, and granting agencies at the national, state and local level.
  • Represents the college and NWCET at technology and business related conferences, summits and meetings.

 

Management/Finance:

  • Promotes and maintains diversity and pluralism in the Institute workforce and in its curricular offerings.
  • Maintains an effective and capable administrative staff for the Institute by appropriate selection, training, development, evaluation, and motivation.
  • Establishes and maintains Institute procedures in accordance with contractual agreements and college policies and procedures.
  • Ensures sustainability of the Institute by securing federal, state, and private funding.
  • Develops, monitors, and administers the Institute budget in conjunction with the college-wide planning process.
  • Serves on committees and task forces and performs other related duties as assigned.

 

SALARY

The salary range is $77,701 - $93,241 with placement based on education and related experience.
