POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the General Manager the KBCS Music Director will provide leadership, inspiration and direction for all station music programming.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A.A. degree in communications, media, or music; (6 years of equivalent and demonstrated work in public or community radio or a closely related field in media or music may be substituted for degree)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with the ability to work with and motivate team members.
  • Demonstrable management experience in working with staff, volunteers and community members in a non-profit setting.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Adobe Audition or related digital audio program, Word, Excel and other PC-based applications.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. degree in communications, media, or music
  • Broad knowledge of musical styles including international, Americana and jazz, with a demonstrated ability to plan and program a consistent radio program based upon these genres.
  • Excellent organization and record keeping skills.
  • A strong commitment to improve station financial well being as well as its image and visibility throughout our broadcast regions.
  • A passion for the value of a community-based public radio station.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with volunteers and paid staff
  • Ability to delegate tasks and the train volunteers
  • Familiarity with KBCS operations and format, and knowledge of community radio philosophy and principles

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise and provide leadership & direction for all KBCS music programming
  • Maintenance of the KBCS Music Library including communication to record labels, promoters and artists whose music is, or might be presented on KBCS
  • Coordinate and supervise music department volunteers and staff by working closely with all music programmers to improve music mix and overall presentation
  • To work with KBCS Program Director to review playlists and air checks to improve presentation, consistency and program flow.
  • Process, organize and supervise data entry of music for inclusion in library including management of playlist software program
  • Schedule all appropriate on air interviews and venue giveaways
  • Host regular radio program as necessary
  • To assist in training volunteers in music programming
  • To research & recommend new types of music programming
  • Provide leadership with station activities including fund drives, local concert sponsorship
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings

 

SALARY:

The salary is $40,163.
