Other Highlights or Announcements about International Students:
Bellevue College students Paula Kosasih and Clairine (Claire) Runtung, both international students from Indonesia who are currently living in Bellevue, have been named to the 2009 All-Washington Academic Team.  Recognizing the best and brightest community and technical college students in the state, the All-Washington Academic Team is a project of Phi Theta Kappa international honor society and the American Association of Community Colleges. Kosasih is heavily involved in campus activities, serving as Phi Theta Kappa communications officer, Chemistry Club vice president and Indonesian Fellowship Club president. She also works part-time as a chemistry tutor for BC’s TRiO program and Academic Success Center. Kosasih plans to complete a bachelor’s in biochemistry, with the goal of one day doing genetic disease research. Runtung also is active in several campus organizations, and last year was president of Phi Theta Kappa. She works part-time as a peer assistant in BC’s International Student Programs office and as a business statistics tutor at the college’s Accounting Lab. She is studying management and finance so that one day she can join an international corporation or management consulting firm. All-Washington Academic Team members were honored by Governor Chris Gregoire at ceremonies in Olympia March 26. Each member of the All-Washington Academic Team received $750 in scholarships funded by Northwest Education Loan Association (NELA) and KeyBank. Team members also will be offered further scholarships from many of the state’s public and private four-year colleges.
