New self-service technology training tutorials for faculty and staff
A new website this fall quarter offers all employees self-service tutorials and a quick-start guide for using campus technology. Check out the new website at: http://bellevuecollege.edu/techtraining/. The site is still evolving. Expect more materials on MyBC Class Sites, and other frequently used technology tools to be added to the site soon.
If online help is not your thing, you can also drop by A109 and ask for help directly from our Education Technology Specialist, Sukirti Ranade. Sukirti offers expertise in Blackboard Vista, Office software, and most all of the classroom technology tools used on campus. We’ll be working on expanding this area to also provide support for MyBC Class Sites and MyBC in general. This is a great first stop if you need help. The Technology Training Room is conveniently located in A109, right next door to the Help Desk in A110.
Also be sure to check out technology training offerings in the Employee Training Calendar. See a list of upcoming technology sessions.
ERP: How we’re preparing this year
If you haven’t heard, the wheels are in motion. The WA State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) is in the process of selecting Enterprise Resource Planning software—also commonly referred to as, ERP. Once the state has chosen an ERP solution in spring 2012, we’ll begin planning migration of our student management (SMS), financial management (FMS) and personnel management (PPMS) modules in the HP over to this solution. In the next 3 years, we expect this to be a reality.
Over the course of this academic year, IR will be facilitating a handful of information sessions you to learn more about what an ERP is, what it can do, and most importantly—how it will affect your daily work. Our next information days on ERP are scheduled for October 13 and 27. Look for more details sent on All BC-FYI e-mail.
New log-in format to Vista starting this fall for students
Starting fall 2011, students who log in to Blackboard Vista will be able to log in using their NetID (network user name and password) instead of their SID and PIN as they have done in the past.
The single sign-on log-in feature inside MyBC will continue to work as it has in the past. If you're an instructor, please be sure to point out this change to students if you feel it is appropriate. Information will also be posted on the Blackboard Vista log-in page.
Changes in IR organization starting this fall
Major staffing changes have swept through the IR division over the past year. We’ve welcomed a new VP, and like every other office on campus, we’ve felt the squeeze of budget cuts and have lost some full- and part-time staff positions.
Many of these changes have required us to regroup (literally) so we can continue to provide the best support possible for you and our students.
What’s changed?
The Education Technology Specialist and staff members from the Technology Development Support Services and Web Services departments will join to form a new unit called, Information Technology Development and Communications (ITDC). Our networking and server team which was previously organized under Computing Services will form a new unit called, Network Services and Security.
