Earning Academic Credit
for Your Internship
Interns are required to be receiving credit through BCC's Academic Internship Program.
There are three assignments to complete over the course of the Internship:
Assignment 1: Write an Overall Goal Statement and three Learning Objectives

After registering for EXPRL 191 (Academic Internship Experience) the intern meets with a Faculty Mentor (usually an instructor from the student's academic department) to discuss the intern's learning objectives, as well as how the internship fits with their academic and career goals. In this meeting, learning objectives are developed. Learning objectives are specific things that the intern would like to know or be able to do by the end of their internship.
Assignment 2: Mid-Internship Reflection
Mid-way through the internship, the intern answers several mid-internship reflection questions and meets once again with their Faculty Mentor. They also submit their Mid-Internship Reflection Questions to the BCC Internship Coordinator. The purpose of the exercise is for the intern to reflect on her or his internship experience and to determine whether progress is being made towards the learning objectives.
Assignment 3: Internship Portfolio and Final Meeting

Finally, the intern compiles an internship portfolio, which consists of their learning objectives, their mid-internship reflection paper, a job description, and a final paper. They then meet with their Faculty Mentor, the BCC Internship Coordinator, and their Employer (when possible) to give and receive feedback.
Upon completing the assignments, the student will earn between two and five credits. This will show up as a letter grade on their BCC transcript as EXPRL 191: Academic Internship Experience.
