Student Role and Responsibilities
An intern receiving credit through BC's Academic Internship Program has three assignments to complete and some paperwork for you to sign over the course of the Internship:
Assignment 1: Learning Objectives
After registering for the Internship Experience class the intern meets with a Faculty Mentor (usually someone from their department) to discuss learning objectives, and how the internship fits with their academic and career goals. Learning objectives are specific tasks the intern would like to know or be able to do by the end of their internship. The intern brings their learning objectives to you to review and sign.
Assignment 2: Internship Mid-Internship Reflection
Mid-way through the internship your intern completes a set of mid-experience reflection questions and meets once again with their Faculty Mentor. They also turn in their Mid-Internship Reflection Questions to the Internship Coordinator. The purpose of the exercise is for the intern to reflect on her or his internship experience and to determine whether progress is being made towards the learning objectives.
Assignment 3: Internship Portfolio and Final Meeting
Finally, the intern completes a small portfolio; this includes writing a job description for themselves and a final paper. They meet again with their Faculty Mentor and the Internship Coordinator. You are invited to participate in this meeting. At the end of the intern's experience, please take a moment to complete the employer evaluation form and sign the intern's timesheet to verify the number of internship hours.
The Career Center and the Academic Internship Program work closely with Faculty to develop syllabus, curricula, and guidelines for this course. A list of our Faculty Committee for Internships and Career Connections is available below.
