The primary goal of the Life Science Informatics Center at Bellevue College is to create industry-relevant learning for Washington's new, incumbent and displaced workforce in the field of health informatics. The Center works with industry to develop health IT skill standards and curricula for community and technical colleges and their high school partners.

 

Healthcare IT Certificate

This six-month ONC-approved online credit program in healthcare IT is designed for learners with an information technology background who are seeking employment in healthcare organizations.

EMR for Ambulatory Practice Certificate

This online ONC-approved non-credit program equips ambulatory practice managers and physician practice owners with the essential skills and knowledge needed to plan for, select, acquire, deploy, and maintain an EMR system. Learn the pitfalls to avoid and discover practices to ensure your successful adoption of electronic medical records. The program ranges from 25 to 50 hours depending on training needs.

Bellevue College's State and National Role in Health Information Technology

Bellevue College was named by the Department of Labor as one of five community and technical colleges to comprise the National Center for the Biotechnology Workforce.  BC is the Life Science Informatics Center of Excellence.

Bellevue College was chosen by the Office for the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology to lead a 10-state region in Health Information Technology training.

The National Science Foundation named Bellevue College and HIMSS to lead development of HIT certification standards. 

The Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society appointed Bellevue College to serve on its national Distance Education Committee. 

Projects currently underway include economic stimulus response in the field of healthcare information technology.  The Center is immersed in Health IT workforce development, in support of Washington’s dislocated workers and state and national stimulus initiatives:
