Healthcare Management

Few fields are growing as much or changing as dramatically as healthcare. Looking to the future there are a number of environmental factors that will continue to contribute to strong growth in this particular field. Advances in medical science have made it possible for people to enjoy longer life expectancies. As the population of the United States ages, the need for health care services will continue to increase and contribute to expansion of the healthcare industry. Along with advances in medical science, innovations in technology will also continue to propel the field forward.
Students in the Healthcare Management concentration will be provided with an overview of the business and administrative functions of healthcare, along with an understanding of the essentials of leadership that will enable them to become effective administrators in the healthcare industry. Graduates in this concentration will be qualified as managers and administrators in hospitals, clinics and healthcare centers.
The BAS in Healthcare Management is a career-oriented bachelor’s degree program developed specifically to meet the career advancement needs of individuals with business and/or healthcare preparation and experience. The first 90 credits of the degree are fulfilled by entrance prerequisites, which include an associate’s degree, or equivalent credits, in a business related—or healthcare related—field. The second half of the degree program offers a professionally relevant curriculum built around the essentials of leadership and provide an overview of the business and administrative functions of healthcare.

The curriculum for the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Healthcare Technology and Management with a concentration in Healthcare Management has been carefully designed to help students gain the skills and abilities that will prepare them become effective administrators in the healthcare industry .

Eligibility
You must have a business-related or healthcare-related associate’s degree, or the equivalent of 55 credits, in one of those areas to be eligible for the Healthcare Management concentration.
In addition, applicants must have completed the following courses or their equivalents with a grade of 2.0 or higher. Both the degree and pre-requisite courses must come from a regionally accredited college:
- English Composition I (5 credits)
- Technical or Research Writing (5 credits)
- College-Level Math: Statistics (5 credits)
- Natural Science: two courses; must include at least one lab course and at least one life sciences course (10 credits)
- Humanities or Social Science (5 credits)
- Communication (5 credits)
