New MyBCC web portal launched

Check out the new MyBCC web portal for employees, which was launched yesterday. This first-of-its-kind portal will provide many new resources for faculty and staff:

Course sites where faculty can post materials for their students

Automatic sign-on to Vista (single sign-on) through MyBCC course sites
Personal web space for staff to post files, links or materials to share with other portal users (including students)
A campus discussion board
Interactive sites and workspaces which allow you to set up discussion boards, content and document libraries for your office or project
Centralized document management (which will eventually replace Public Folders)
Optional features such as weather and news channels.

The new MyBCC portal also will replace – but continue to provide all the same resources as – the current Intranet, the forms library, the faculty and staff links off the public website, and the prior version of MyBCC. A series of MyBCC training workshops and self-guided resources will be available beginning in January. The Intranet and existing portal will continue to be available until Jan. 2. The student version of the portal will be launched Jan. 3.

Proposals sought for 2005 interdisciplinary courses

Applications (which can be downloaded from http://www.bcc.ctc.edu/liberalarts) must include a specific faculty instructional team and a theme for exploration. While it is not necessary to have taught in the IDS program previously, new IDS instructors must name a mentor IDS instructor as part of their team. BCC students redesigning Shorewood foodserve area

Instructor Dan Beerts' Interior Design III–Public Spaces Studio class has been working with officials of Shoreline District Schools to plan a new foodservice environment at Shorewood High School.  A kick-off meeting was held at BCC, where the students discussed issues of concern with district facilities and foodservice managers. Students then surveyed existing conditions of the space through field visits, measured surveys and photographic documentation. Students also completed a comprehensive space programming process that involved interviewing students, faculty and staff at Shorewood; conducting surveys; performing observation studies at Shorewood and other high schools around the region; and obtaining and analyzing relevant research data on facilities of this type, with regard to building codes, signage and identity programs, environmental behavior and best practices in this field. They presented preliminary findings to school representatives on Oct. 28, and presented their final design recommendations to school representatives and school board members on Dec. 9.
