Isbel Trejo, Director of |
The college is planning a memorial service for BCC Director of Computing Services Isbel Trejo and her husband Herbert, who both died last week during a trip to Venezuela. "Isbel is greatly missed," said BCC President Jean Floten. "She impacted the college in so many positive ways - through her professionalism and most importantly, her close working relationships with others."
"While we cope with our feelings of loss, it's encouraging to see the college come together to support each other," Floten continued. "This is a difficult time for all of us, especially the Computing Services staff who were very close to Isbel. Please be extra considerate of them while they go through the grieving process."
The memorial service date will be set when Trejo family members return to the
area. A fund to support the family has been established and donations in the
name of Isbel Trejo may be made via the Cashier's Office. The staff in Computing
Services are working to organize a remembrance for her. "The impact she
had on both the personal and professional lives of every one of us in Computing
Services is immeasurable," said Gary Farris, IT Systems Specialist. "We
want to find a way to respond to our loss by creating a lasting tribute for
her at the college, and to recognize how she helped make BCC a great institution."
For more information, please contact Gary
Farris at 564-4077 or via campus e-mail.

Future editions of the Grapevine will still be announced via BCC e-mail.
BCC staff, faculty and trustees charted the future of the college from 2004-2011 in a new strategic plan adopted by the BCC Board of Trustees on October 29. The strategic plan focuses on nine areas of development: access, student success, teaching and learning excellence, institutional accountability, professional and organizational excellence, financial sustainability, technology leadership, pluralism and community leadership and partnership. View the plan and strategic priorities online at http://www.bcc.ctc.edu/about/goals/strategicplan/default.asp.

Languages will occupy a new space in A245. Please direct students and employees to these new locations. Phone numbers will remain the same.
Now students and staff members with wireless devices can connect to BCC's student network and the Internet in the C, L, B and N Buildings. A collaborative project between BCC Computing Services and Information Technology Services, the wireless network was funded by Student Programs and the Associated Student Government. Here is your chance to help select a thought-provoking work for BCC Reads! The book should be meaningful and relevant to current society, and should portray all ethnic groups accurately and respectfully. Ideally, the book will also apply to all of BCC's academic divisions: arts and humanities, science, social science and business. One selection is under consideration, Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America. The next BCC Reads! Selection Committee meeting will be held December 4 at 4 p.m. in Room L100D. For more information, contact Nicole Longpré at 564-3071 or via campus e-mail.
There is still time for students to register for the three-credit "Thinking Strategies" course for winter quarter. Created to respond to campus concerns about poor quality critical thinking skills, the course helps students evaluate arguments, tap their own creativity, conduct research and articulate their ideas through writing, and speaking as well as visual and digital media. For more information, and to refer students, please contact Instructor Jeanne Strieck at 564-2315 or via campus e-mail. Students who wish to register for the HD196 course need to use item number 6044.

Welcome to new BCC staff and faculty:
A fond farewell to departing BCC employees:
What to our wondering eyes two little "elves" have appeared in the ELFCC family! Toddler Teacher Michell Moore welcomed her daughter Elora and baby Matthew recently joined mom Francisca Dominguez, a Lead Head Start Teacher at the Early Learning Family and Childcare Center.
After more than two decades at the college, Food Services Director Bob Southard
is retiring. Come wish Bob well at his retirement party, Thursday, December
11 at 2:30 p.m. in the Garden Room, C130.
BCC student and working mom, Trisha Allerdice was featured in a November 30 article in the King County Journal. An intern at the college's Early Learning, Family and Childcare Center, Allerdice is studying computer fundamentals and learning to balance work, school and parenting. Read the full story online at http://www.kingcountyjournal.com/sited/story/html/150194.

also important to get the word out early--so please post information as soon
as campus space and the event dates and details are confirmed! Please take the
next available opportunity to verify that your upcoming BCC event is posted:

to submit details!)
