Happy Birthday BCC!
Yesterday BCC celebrated its 35th
anniversary. The college opened its doors to approximately 450 community
members seeking higher education in January 1966 at Newport High School.
Today BCC provides education and training opportunities to over 21,000
students. Throughout BCC history, teaching and learning excellence
have remained top priorities. You can visit a special Founder’s Day
website with reflections
from staff and faculty, a chronological timeline, a photo gallery
and an interactive section where you may contribute your own memories
of BCC at http://www.bcc.ctc.edu/foundersday
An Update
From the “Zone”
Did you know that Continuing
Education’s arts program has a new name? Arts 2000 was renamed Art-Zones
a few weeks ago. Art-Zones offers visual, literary, performing arts
and media classes in locations throughout the Eastside. A new state-of-the-art
photography lab, with 12 workstations and a darkroom, just opened
at Factoria Center. Day or evening photo classes will be available
at the end of the month for the novice or the expert. In other Art-Zones
news, five artists from the Public Art and Design program will be
working with the new Early Learning, Family, and Childcare Center
project architect to design and construct donor recognition artwork
for the new facility.
Employee of the Month
Congratulations to Tracy
Tucker, the classified staff association “Employee of the Month” for
December! Tracy, a campus security officer in Campus Operations, has
been at the college since 1995. Colleagues praised her sense of humor,
professional manner and grace under pressure. “Tracy is always helpful
and polite,” said one of her many fans. Another remarked, “Tracy is
unfailingly supportive of other BCC employees and very attentive and
conscientious.”
