Campus Shows Generous
Support
The campus community rallied its support for the recent employee Annual
Fund drive! The campaign ended on October 20, raising over $8,000.
Thanks in part to campus support of the Annual Fund, the BCC Foundation
has created and sustained many programs that enhance the working environment
of this college. Your donations have supported the Margin of Excellence
Awards for the last 16 years, provided scholarships for hundreds of
students and backed important projects like the NWCET and the new
Early Learning, Family and Childcare Center. The Foundation extends
a big thank you to everyone who participated in this year's employee
campaign. You can still make a donation at any time throughout the
year. For more information, call Sharyn Nuha at 564-2386.
BCC Invites Your Comment
on Traffic Proposals for 148th
The City of Bellevue Transportation Department
has recently proposed four alternatives to fix traffic congestion
on 148th Avenue SE. Unfortunately, the alternatives proposed by the
city could inhibit traffic flow in and out of the college. BCC
is now suggesting a fifth alternative, one that would benefit both
the city and the college, as proposed by William E. Haro and Associates,
a professional traffic engineering firm. Look for a poster with
details on the proposed alternatives in the Student Union Building
soon. BCC invites faculty, staff, and students to familiarize themselves
with the issues and alternatives. You may provide feedback to the
city by filling out a written comment form near the display in the
Student Union. The City of Bellevue Transportation Commission may
be addressing the issue at their mid-December meeting.
Visiting Colleges Tour
BCC
BCC hosted representatives from Southwestern
Oregon Community College and San Diego City College on October 23-25
to provide an in-depth look at our renowned information technology
and media programs. Many of the faculty and administrators from the
visiting colleges reported that they plan to make changes to their
classes or programs as a result of what they learned. The visit was
part of the AACC/Microsoft Working Connections program in which BCC
was selected as one of five national mentor colleges to assist other
colleges in improving their IT curriculum. Jack Perry and Marcia Williams
manage the project for BCC.
Arts 2000 Decorates
State’s Christmas Tree
This past weekend, BCC’s Arts 2000 faculty,
staff, students and local artists spent the day making decorations
for the Washington State Christmas Tree. Using a variety of mixed
media materials to represent the theme of “peace,” the group
created ornaments that will be displayed on our state’s official Christmas
tree in Washington D.C. during the holiday season. The BCC Arts 2000
program was selected to make the ornaments based on its strong reputation
for excellence. The Eastside Journal covered the event in the
October 30 edition of the newspaper.
BCC Honor Society Hosts
Regional Leadership Conference
BCC’s honor society, Alpha Epsilon Rho,
will host the Phi Theta Kappa Fall Leadership Conference and Mini-Honors
Institute this weekend. Faculty and students from Washington, Idaho,
Montana and Canada will participate in events at BCC from Friday evening
to Sunday morning. Speakers and seminars will provide information
on global warming, environmental issues and leadership techniques.
If you would like to attend the conference this weekend, contact Jeff
Cofer via campus e-mail.

New Smoking Shelters
Installed
In step with BCC’s new campus smoking policy,
permanent smoking shelters are being installed on the BCC campus.
The new shelters will replace the temporary tents currently being
used. The new shelters are solid structures with glass-paneled
walls for weather protection. A total of twelve shelters will be constructed
by mid-November, just in time for our rainy weather!
