These workshops target faculty interested in using online technologies to support their teaching. As always, all workshops are free to all BCC staff and faculty.

Moving from WebCT to VISTA this quarter? This one-day workshop is for you. You will learn how to build content, use communication tools, change graphics and headers, and incorporate assignments. Note: If you plan to use the quiz tool you will also need to sign up for VISTA: Assessments and Selective Release

Description: At the end of this session participants will be able to: (1) create five different types of questions for the question database; (2) create quizzes; (3) assign quizzes with appropriate settings to students; (4) link quizzes to their course site, (5) grade quizzes; and (6) view and manipulate selective release map.

Have you used VISTA 2.0 in the last year? Come to this 2-hour workshop to learn about new tools and options available to you in VISTA 3.0
Among the things covered are new options for grading in the discussion tool, new gradebook and tracking features, and annotating your VISTA homepage. If time allows and if the new BCC Portal is ready, we will also explore implications the Portal will have for online instruction.

This overview to online teaching here at BCC is for BCC faculty who have never taught online with WebCT or VISTA. This workshop will introduce you to different kinds of support available to you here at BCC, allow you to access course sites in VISTA and within the new BCC Portal, teach you how to use online resources to set up content, make announcements, and facilitate discussion, and provide you with information on how to get more involved with campus flexible access initiatives (hybrid courses, online courses, weekend courses, late-start courses, etc.)

This online workshop is aimed at faculty who currently use online technologies to facilitate discussions or group work in their classes or are interested in doing so in the future. All work is completed online. Weekly readings of current research and discussions incorporating BCC faculty experience form the bulk of this institute. June 25 - August 13 2004

Description: At the end of this session participants will be able to: (1) distinguish the basic categories of BUILD, TEACH and STUDENT VIEW; (2) distinguish the basic categories under the BUILD tab within VISTA (Content Inventory, Power View, Basic View) and the File Manager; (3) create content pages from scratch; (4) create content pages from an existing file (including uploading files to the file manager); (5) create learning modules; (6) add links to learning modules and content pages; (7) create additional organizer pages; and (8) add links to VISTA tools.

Description: At the end of this session participants will be able to: (1) distinguish the basic categories of BUILD, TEACH and STUDENT VIEW; (2) distinguish the basic categories under the BUILD tab within VISTA (Content Inventory, Power View, Basic View) and the File Manager; (3) use the BASIC VIEW under the BUILD tab to edit link titles, file content and student access to existing content linked through organizer pages, content pages, and learning modules.

Description: At the end of this session participants will be able to: (1) create assignments, (2) link assignments to their course site, (3) release/assign assignments to students, (4) provide students with effective instructions, (5) download submitted assignments, (6) grade assignments, (7) modify grades, and (8) view and manipulate selective release map.

Description: At the end of this session participants will be able to: (1) add individual students or other faculty to their course section, (2) add columns to their gradebook, (3) adjust grades in existing columns, (4) create calculated columns that total other columns, (5) hide or show columns for easy grade management, and (6) release or unreleased grades to students.

Description: At the end of this session participants will be able to: (1) access BCC graphics libraries and conduct effective searches for graphics, (2) crop, resize and change the resolution of graphics in a common graphic editing software product, (3) identify appropriate file formats and sizes for graphics on the web, (4) change image formats to the appropriate format, (5) change icons in VISTA to graphics of your choice, and (6) change VISTA banners to the graphic of your choice.

Description: The five-day intensive institute covers all of the following workshops over the course of two days: Communication Tools, Building Content, Assessment & Selective Release, Assignments & Selective Release, Grading and Tracking, Graphics for VISTA, Basic HTML and Using HTML Editors. In addition, participants are provided with lab time to work on their own material with the support of the workshop facilitators.
