New Faculty
We would like to take a minute to let you know how to get started with Technology and Instruction here on our campus.
All of our instructional technology resources are available to all of our part-time and full-time faculty.
The
Faculty Resource Center is available to help any instructor
get started with online instructional technologies. Even if
you only want to put up a syllabus or use a small discussion
board, you should start by reading I
Want to Teach Online.
There are no fees associated with the use of the Faculty Resource Center services and there are no fees charged to your face-to-face students for their use of online materials without your approval.
Some faculty members who have developed a significant amount of online material have exercised their option to charge students a fee to access that material.
If you plan to use a computer lab more than 4-7 times during a quarter, you will very likely be required to charge your students a fee for that use.
Talk to your division secretary regarding the specific policies.
If you only need occasional access to a computer lab, contact
Academic Computing to make the appropriate arrangements.
Again, be sure to clear this with your division secretary
first.
Contact
the Library
Media Center to reserve computer or video carts for your
classroom. You can also check out some BCC campus software
to install on your home computer for work purposes.
The
BCC Library offers consulting services to BCC faculty
and conducts workshops designed specifically for your course
upon request. We recommend talking to a librarian about their
services as soon as you are assigned a section to teach!
For
any other technical information or help you need, you should
contact the BCC RequestCenter at
http://requestcenter.bcc.ctc.edu.

The
BCC Library
The Library has curriculum materials for faculty use and offers consultation on the development of discipline specific materials that incorporate information literacy. You can schedule a workshop tailored specifically for your class and you can attend regularly scheduled workshops for both faculty and students.
The
Center for the Liberal Arts
The Center for the Liberal Arts provides curriculum resources for faculty and sponsors numerous events to support the liberal arts here at BCC. You can arrange to have BCC's Fulbright Scholar visit your class, participate in the BCC Reads program and have your students read the book selected this year for incorporation across the disciplines, or invite them to participate in a Center for the Liberal Arts scholarship program.
The
Career Center
The Career Center supports Service Learning and Internship programs for students. They can be a wonderful resource for faculty seeking to incorporate more real life experiences into their classrooms.
The
Office of Faculty Professional Development
The Office of Faculty Professional
Development has curriculum resources to share, as well as
a mentor program for new faculty and opportunities for involvement
in BCC Faculty Professional Development days. Part-time
faculty are welcome to attend Faculty Professional Development
days and depending upon their teaching assignment, may even
qualify for support to attend. Contact your division
secretary or the Office of Faculty Professional Development
for more information.
