Online Instructor and Designer Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all course activities, including assessments, projects, activities, discussions, and assignments are complete with clear and up-to-date instructions for the students, so that faculty can easily run these assignments.
- Ensuring that course content, including lectures and other important information is current and as written allows students to meet course outcomes recommended by the curriculum committee and approved by the Executive Dean.
- Making a draft version of the course available to prospective section instructors at least two months before the quarter starts.
- Completing all maintenance work on the course at least one week before the quarter starts.
- Creating and maintaining the course calendar and syllabus for their section of the course.
- Selecting, designing and/or adapting assignments and assessments that allow them to evaluate student progress toward learning outcomes.
- Coordinating, facilitating and evaluating student-to-student activities, such as discussion, chat and other uses of group work.
- Implementing assessments to determine student progress toward learning outcomes.
- Selecting, designing and/or adapting the learning pathway for students.
- Responsible for reporting technical problems to the FRC.
- Ensuring students enrolled are correctly entered into the site or directed to support for technical questions.
- Providing timely and appropriate feedback to students on progress toward learning outcomes.
- Responsible for knowing how to run their course.
- Responding to student questions in a timely manner. (Content questions, technical questions, distance education questions, advising/registration questions, student services questions...ad nauseum).
- Verifying that they have the technical skills necessary to teach the course as well as deal with problems as they arise.
- Adjust calendars, syllabi, quiz release dates and settings, or assignment tool release dates and settings.
- Verifying that they understand the course structure, assignments, and assessments as well as how the process of teaching and learning takes place within that learning context.
