Our Scholarships

 

The Bellevue Community College Foundation is pleased to offer the following scholarships. Not all scholarships are offered each opening.  Openings are in the Spring and Fall quarters.  Specific eligibility criteria are listed for each scholarship, and additional materials (such as two letters of recommendation, unofficial transcripts and a sampling of awards and certificates) are required.

Scholarships offered in Spring 2008 for 2008-2009 academic year

Foundation Scholarships (300)

Individuals interested in applying for Foundation General Scholarships must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 at the time of application, maintain this GPA throughout the three quarters they receive scholarship assistance and demonstrate financial need at the time of application.  Applicants must be enrolled in full or part-time credit courses (3 credits or more) fall quarter 2009.

Bushnell Scholarship Fund (306)

The Bushnell Scholarship is awarded based on two letters of recommendations and the overall scholarship applications with an emphasis on financial need.  Each recipient will be awarded up to $2,500 to use for tuition, books and fees.

Bergstrom Family Scholarship Fund (311)

Students interested in applying for the Bergstrom Family Scholarship must be enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program and be graduates of Lake Stevens or Foster High School.  Each recipient will be awarded up to $1,000 to use for tuitions, books and fees.

The Boeing Company Scholarships (312)

Students interested in applying for The Boeing Company Scholarship must be a full-time student, demonstrate financial need and be enrolled at Bellevue Community College in one of the following disciplines:  Business Management, Engineering Technology, or Information Technology.  Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or have filed for citizenship.  Students who are members of diverse populations are encouraged to apply.  Each recipient will be awarded up to $1,500 to use for tuition, books, and fees.

The Markie Miller Memorial Scholarship (316)
The Markie Miller Scholarship was created by Doug Miller, the husband of Markie Miller, a long time and beloved BCC food service employee who passed away after battling pancreatic cancer. The Scholarship was created as a memorial to assist students enrolled in the nursing or health sciences or students who work in food service operations at BCC. One $1,000 scholarship is available for 08-09 academic year. Applicants must be a student employee of the BCC food services department OR a student of good standing in the Nursing Program or other Health & Allied Service Program, must have completed a minimum of 15 credits and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Radiation Therapy-Distant Learning Scholarship (324)
Students interested in applying for the Radiation Therapy-Distant Learning Scholarship must be enrolled in a Radiation Therapy program at BCC, have a summer internship scheduled at a Distant Learning Facility and demonstrate financial need.

Radiation Technology Student Assistant Program at Swedish Medical Center (325)
Students interested in applying for the Swedish Medical Center Radiation Technology Student Assistant Loan Program must be enrolled in the Radiology Technologist Program at BCC, maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 (applies to prerequisites as well) and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above in core radiology courses.  As part of this scholarship, students agree to remain employed as a Radiology Technologist at Swedish Medical Center for a period of at least two (2) years.  If the recipient of this scholarship does not complete the Radiology Tech Program or becomes ineligible for the scholarship or terminates employment with Swedish Medical Center before required term, the recipient will repay Swedish Medical Center the full amount of the financial assistance provided.

Habib Mathematics Scholarship Fund (329)
Students interested in applying for the Habib Mathematics Scholarship Fund must be a female student planning on an educational degree that emphasizes math, physics, chemistry or engineering.  Applicants must have completed 30 college level credits, have a GPA of 3.0 or above and have completed at least 10 credits in math including Math 125 and Calculus II.  Preference will be given to students planning a career in math/science and students who have experience tutoring.  Along with the general application, the applicant must also complete a one-page statement that discusses her goals and objectives for higher education, accomplishments to date and anticipated financial need, if any, in achieving these goals.  The applicant must also submit an Educational Advising Plan Worksheet detailing current classes, plus those planned for the next academic school year and two letters of recommendation from members of the math or science faculty at BCC.

Paros ESL Scholarship (331)
Students interested in applying for the Paros ESL Scholarship must be enrolled in the ESL program and wish to continue their studies at the Bellevue Community College.  Students must also demonstrate financial need, have successfully completed their ESL coursework and be enrolled at BCC.  Along with the general application students need to submit one letter of recommendation.

Latino/Latina Tika Esler Scholarhip (336)  
Students interested in applying for the Latino/Latina Tika Esler Scholarship must be full-time students of Hispanic/Latino heritage or those who demonstrate positive involvement with issues that affect Latino students and the Latino community, and who are completing their first undergraduate degree.  The recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5, must demonstrate need, and be an active campus community member.  Along with the general application, the applicant must also: provide documentation that verifies GPA if that is not provided on high-school and college transcripts and a personal biography.  If the personal biography is written in Spanish please attach a translation written in English. You may contact the BCC Latin American Culture Club to gain assistance in locating a translator.

Larry McCoy Memorial Scholarship (380)
Students interested in applying for the Larry McCoy Memorial Scholarship must be a first year radiology (x-ray) student at BCC and employed by VMMC.  Applicants must display a good attitude and work ethic, must be positive and eager to learn, be willing to assist whenever and wherever needed and not be failing any classes.

Sandusky Radio Scholarship (387)
Students interested in applying for the Sandusky Radio Scholarship must be enrolled in BCC’s Radio Broadcasting program, demonstrate financial need and be a full-time student. Selection of recipients will be based on achievements, financial need, a personal statement and two letters of recommendation.

Costco Student of Diversity Scholarship (392)
Students interested in applying for the Costco Student of Diversity Scholarship must be a student of color.

MGC/Seattle Times Endowment (403)
Students interested in applying for the Seattle Times IT Scholarship must be a full or part-time student. Applicants must be a student of color, a member of an underrepresented population in IT, or have a physical, learning, or other difference that creates a barrier to their full participation in the IT program at BCC.  Applicants must be pursuing a career in IT, must qualify for financial aid, and demonstrate financial need beyond the FA award.  Applicants must also have established GPAs of at least 2.5, be residents of Washington State and have completed at least 15 credit hours at BCC.

Aoyama Endowment (404)
Students interested in applying for the Aoyama Scholarship Endowment must be a mature women (42 years and above) who is studying toward betterment or skills and/or professional growth in order to provide for their families.  Applicants must also have a GPA of at least 2.5, have completed at least 26 college-level credits and be enrolled in a degree/certificate program at BCC.  Along with the general application, applicants must submit a personally prepared statement of not more than 1000 words summarizing school and out-of-school accomplishments, goals and objectives for higher education, career goals that will assist in providing for your family, and the reason you believe you are qualified for the scholarship award.  Also, applicants must submit a completed Educational Advising Plan Worksheet, detailing classes remaining to complete degree/certificate program and one letter of endorsement from BCC counselor, advisor or faculty member who has had an opportunity to personally observe your character and purposefulness.

Art Erschler Basketball Scholarship (Athletics) (405)
Students interested in applying for the Art Erschler Basketball Scholarship must have participated in, and completed one full season of intercollegiate basketball and have accumulated at least thirty hours of college credit.  One award of $1,000 will be granted to a student to use for tuition, fees and books.  The applicant must also submit two letters of recommendation from non-family members supporting the nomination in addition to the Foundation Scholarship Application.

Courter Family Interior Design Scholarships and Internship (406)

Students interested in applying for the Courter Family Interior Design Scholarship and Internship must be enrolled in the Interior Design program at BCC and maintain a minimum GPA of at least a 2.8. Preference will be given to those who have completed 70 or more credits toward their degree.  Finalists must be willing to participate in a formal interview and, if selected, serve as a paid intern for the Courter Design Group.  The Courter Design Group is a six-year-old interior design consulting company that performs jobs associated with the overall formulation and design of interior (and some exterior) residential spaces.  An intern with Courter Design Group would be actively involved in all areas of a small interior design firm and will assist with many design and facility/real estate management projects. The recipient will be awarded up to $1,200 to their student account to use for tuition, books and fees and will be paid for the duration of their internship.  The applicant must also complete a statement, in addition to the Foundation Application, of not more than 300 words addressing information regarding scholastic and non-scholastic accomplishments, educational and professional goals and objectives, and any other special circumstances, or qualifications.

Vasantha Daniel Nursing Scholarship (408)
Vasantha Daniel is a former faculty member of Bellevue Community College’s nursing program and continues to remain involved in the community at BCC.  Students interested in applying for the Vasantha Daniel Nursing Scholarship must be a freshman or sophomore nursing student, have a GPA of at least 3.0 and have completed the first two quarters of their respective year in the nursing program by the end of Winter quarter.  This scholarship is awarded to (1) freshman and (1) sophomore nursing students for the amount of $500 to assist with tuition, books and fees.  To apply for this scholarship, students must get the application form from Nursing Program faculty members.

Nancy Bean Costco IT Scholarship (412)

Students interested in applying for the Nancy Bean Costco IT Scholarship must be currently enrolled in an approved IT program at BCC, be a single parent and demonstrate financial need.  The recipients will be awarded an amount dependent on financial need, of up to $3,000 to their student account to use for tuition, books, and fees.

Charlotte Field Interior Design Scholarship (413)
Students interested in applying for the Charlotte Field Interior Design scholarship must be a full- or part- time student at BCC and enrolled in the Associate of Arts Interior Design program.  Applicant must have completed 45 college level credits with a GPA of 2.5 or above. To apply for this scholarship, students must get the application form from Interior Design Program faculty members.

James and Sandra Dagnon Scholarship (415)
Students interested in applying for the James and Sandra Dagnon Endowed Scholarship must be enrolled in the Alcohol and Drug Counseling Program (ALDAC), maintain a GPA of at least 2.0, and demonstrate financial need.  Evaluations will be based on the overall application, essay, activities, need and extenuating circumstances.

Walter Baz Interior Design Scholarship (416)
Students interested in applying for the Walter Baz Interior Design Scholarship must be enrolled in the BCC Interior Design Program, have completed (or will complete within the quarter in which they are applying) at least 80 credits in Interior Design, and maintain a GPA of at least 2.8. Along with the general application, applicants must provide a personal statement of not more than 300 words addressing professional and educational goals, an official transcript and a letter of recommendation from an instructor in the Interior Design Program or from a professional with whom they have worked within the field.

Group Health Employee Scholarship (432)
Students interested in applying for the Group Health Employee Scholarship must be employees of Group Health, enrolled in an Allied Health Science Program at BCC, demonstrate financial need, and have an established GPA of 2.8 or higher.  Preference will be given to students of diverse backgrounds.  Each recipient will be awarded up to $1,000, depending on need, for tuition, fees and books. Along with the general application, applicants must submit a copy of completed financial aid forms, a copy of official transcripts, and include two letters of recommendation from non-family members supporting their nomination as well as a written statement of not more than 300 words that demonstrates the applicant's dedication to pluralism and diversity.

Swedish Hospital Students of Diversity Scholarship (433)
Students interested in applying for the Swedish Hospital Students of Diversity Scholarship must be a student of color interested in pursuing a career in the Health Sciences.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need and must be a resident of the State of Washington.  A GPA of at least 2.5 is desired, but academic potential may be validated by other means (endorsement from a counselor or instructor at BCC). Along with the general application, applicants must submit a copy of completed and submitted financial aid form.

Overlake Hospital Student of Color Scholarship (434)
Students interested in applying for the Overlake Hospital Student of Color Scholarship must be a student of color pursuing a career in Health Sciences.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of the State of Washington.  Established GPAs of 2.5 or higher are desired, but academic potential may be validated by other means (endorsement from a counselor or instructor at BCC).  The recipient will be awarded up to $750 for tuition, books and fees. Along with the general application, applicants must submit a copy of completed and submitted financial aid forms.

R.K. Agrawal Scholarship (450)
Students interested in applying for the R.K. Agrawal Scholarship must be an international student, over the age of 25, enrolled in a BCC professional/technical program, and changing careers.  Scholarships may be awarded to new or continuing students with a GPA of a least a 3.0.

Lee Kraft Scholarship (455)
The Lee Kraft Scholarship for Hispanic Women is open to any female student of Hispanic descent who is enrolled or who plans to enroll at BCC.  Students must have a GPA of 2.8.  Along with the general application, applicants must submit a statement of no more than 300 words addressing their personal, professional and educational goals. In addition, one of the letters of recommendation should be from an instructor, a high school or college counselor or a community member affiliated with a recognized social service agency.

Ruthann Kurose Endowed Scholarship (460)
Students interested in applying for the Ruthann Kurose Endowed Scholarship must be a student of color, demonstrate financial need, and have a GPA of at least 2.5.

Stromer Scholarship Fund (468)
Students interested in applying for the Stromer Scholarship Fund must demonstrate financial need and be attending or planning to attend BCC.  Applicants must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0, be US citizens or provide proof of legal residency.  Selection of recipients will be based on financial need and personal circumstances.

Vijay & Sita Vashee Single Parent Scholarship (470)
Students interested in applying for the Vashee Single Parent Scholarship must either be a single parent with full physical custody of a child or children or be the child of a single parent.  All applicants must have completed 45 college level credits, have a 3.0 GPA or above and be enrolled in a degree/certificate program at BCC.  Applicants will be evaluated on their grade point average, personal circumstance and the difficulty of their educational discipline.  Along with the general application, applicants must complete an Educational Advising Plan Worksheet detailing classes remaining to complete their degree or/certificate and a letter of endorsement from a BCC faculty member within the student’s discipline.

Tech Prep Scholarship (xxx)
Students interested in applying for Tech Prep Scholarship must be a graduating Tech Prep senior, planning to enroll in a professional technical program at BCC, and demonstrate financial need.  This scholarship is an incentive for students to complete the Tech Prep program of study and enroll in a certificate program, 2 year, or 4 year degree program to be completed at BCC.  Along with the general application, the applicant must submit: a personal statement; one letter of endorsement from a high school Career & Technical Education teacher who was the instructor for the Tech Prep Dual credit course(s).  Furthermore applicants must highlight the Tech Prep courses that appear on their high school and college transcripts which are a required for the application.  Finally, a resume is highly recommended.
