Logging in to the campus network using VPN

Accessing your computer remotely
Here’s a situation you may have experienced before. You’re at home and you have documents saved on your computer at work you need to access. If you’re sick with the flu and can’t come to work, there is a way to “connect” to your computer. It’s called Remote Desktop Connection. Classified staff and administrators please note: supervisor approval is required for Remote Desktop Connection.
Basic requirements
- A computer with an Internet connection (broadband preferrably).
- You must also be connected to the campus network using VPN.
How to use Remote Desktop Connection
Accessing the HP remotely
If the work that you do requires you connect to the HP, when you’re working at home due to illness or campus closures, if you’ve already been granted permissions to connecting to the HP, you should be able to use Remote Desktop Connection to access your computer, then connect the HP following procedures you’re already accustomed to.
If you do not currently connect to the HP through your desktop, and you’ve been asked to cover for someone who does require this access, you’ll need to get permission by any Dean or Vice President to approve this.
Basic requirements
- A computer and an Internet connection (broadband preferrably)..
- You must also be connected to the campus network using VPN and will also need to be connected to your desktop remotely.
- Permission from any Dean or Vice President.

Creating a “virtual workspace” for you or your employees with MyBC
If several of your colleagues or employees must stay home due to a college closure, consider using MyBC as an alternative for any one of these scenarios:
- Collaborate on a document with other employees using a document library.
- Discuss issues or ideas about a current project you’re working on using a discussion board.
- Create a calendar in your portal that communicates important dates for your project.
- Publish announcements for your employees on your portal home page.
If you have another need that is not mentioned here, contact Lori Tiede in the Web Services office for assistance. In the event that Web Services staff are sick during this time, limited support may be available. Other on-demand training materials for SharePoint (MyBC) are available at https://go.mybcc.net/training/.
Important:
When using MyBC sites, some features and tools may present accessibility issues. You’ll need to consider how to make the information accessible for everyone—especially if one of your employees or students has requested accommodation through the Disability Resource Center.
