|
Is a procedure in which your college or university verifies the accuracy of the information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) usually by requesting a copy of signed tax returns, if applicable from students and parents. Applicants selected for Verification will need to also submit a Verification Worksheet and any other requested documents before the BCC aid office will review the application. Additional items may be requested after the initial review if the financial aid office has further questions. Other documentation may be requested, such as child support orders, W-2s, or social security statements. Schools must verify information about students selected for verification by Department of Education’s (DOE’s) central processor following procedures established by federal regulations. The processor places an asterisk (*) next to the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number on your Student Aid Report (SAR) and SAR Acknowledgements to identify those selected for verification. An ISIR is also flagged. I. Verification Worksheet You can find the Verification Worksheet on our website under "Forms". Please be sure to use the form for the correct year and the correct student type: independent or dependent. II. Corrections After reviewing your application we may make corrections to your SAR (Student Aid Report). The processor for the Department of Education will send you a new SAR showing the corrections. Please do not change the information once we have corrected it. If you believe an error was made please contact our office and set up an appointment to discuss the changes made you to your application. The DOE notifies us of changes and your aid will be blocked if you’ve changed your application after we have corrected it. Return to the Financial Aid Office's main web page. Last updated on |
