Student Loan Deferment |
|
|
Deferment Students who have previously borrowed through the "regular" Stafford or the Direct Stafford loan program are eligible for a deferment of their student loan payments under these circumstances, when you are enrolled and attending at least half-time in an institution of higher education. Contact your lender, guaranty agency, or direct lending school to find if you're eligible. Only your lender can issue a deferment (a postponement of payments); Bellevue Community College cannot authorize these types of student loan deferments. Economic Hardship There are other ways of delaying the payments on a student loan. If you are experiencing adverse circumstances or events such as unemployment, disability, or financial difficulties you may want to research a forbearance. Contact your lender to find out if you might be eligible. Office of the Ombudsman If you are having repayment problems or service issues with your lender or guarantee agency and are dissatisfied, you can always contact your borrower advocate, the Office of the Ombudsman. You can contact the Office of the Ombudsman by telephone at 877-557-2575 (toll free), or email at fsaombudsmanoffice@ed.gov, or on-line at https://fsaombudsman.ed.gov.
