Course Codes

Most Distance Education courses list two item numbers for the same class. The purpose of this coding system is to determine the type of course. OAS, OAC, OBS, OBC, TAS and TAC are Distance Education course codes.

Definitions of Class Types

The first letter of the course code identifies the course as online or a telecourse.

O=Online Course (class is attended via the Web)
T=Telecourse (televised or on video)

The second letter of the course code identifies the class section.

A=Section A
B=Section B

The last letter of the course code identifies the type of course.

S=State-supported course
C=Contract courses

Which Course Should You Choose?

OAS, OBS, and TAS courses are state-supported classes and are recommended for all Washington state residents. OAC, OBC and TAC courses are contract classes recommended for non-residents of Washington state.
