Vista 8 Disabling Pop-up Blockers

Pop-ups (small browser windows that open independently of the content window) can be blocked by your browser's internal blockers, by security software such as Norton Utilities, and by second-party toolbars. Pop-up blockers are generally desireable, so the trick is to allow pop-ups to work only when you're using Blackboard Vista, but continue to block them elsewhere. In a few cases, you might have to disable a blocker entirely while you are using Vista. In most cases, however, you can set your blocker to allow popups only when using Vista. Click on the name of the browser, security software or toolbar below for instructions on how to disable pop-up blockers or allow them when using Vista.

Allowing pop-ups within Vista (while continuing to block pop-ups elsewhere) :

Disabling pop-up blockers of security systems:

    • Norton Utilities
    • consult the Help menu for assistance with disabling pop-up blockers of any security software

Disabling pop-up blockers of second-party toolbars:

First determine which toolbars you have active:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on the View menu and hover over the Toolbars menu.
  3. A drop-down menu will appear which will include the names of any second-party toolbars you may have enabled.

If any of the toolbars listed below are present, we recommend uninstalling them (see the "Uninstalling Applications " page).

If you are unwiling to uninstall, follow the links below for instructions on how to disable pop-up blockers for each. NOTE: if any of the toolbars below do allow entering exceptions, then enter vista.bcc.ctc.edu into their exception list.
