You must have the correct version (and NO OTHERS) of the Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE Runtime Environment 6 Update 23) installed in order for your course site to function correctly. Follow the steps below to correctly configure your machine:
1. Check to see what version of JAVA you may have installed.
2. Install the correct version of JAVA.
Please Note:
As of June 2010, there have been some reported errors on the Blackboard list serves for versions of JAVA 1.6, Update 19 and higher. This is due to an ongoing security option now enabled in all future JAVA updates.
Blackboard VISTA users report: "We're seeing multiple security messages: one upon log in and others whenever a user clicks on a Java-related tool (Who's Online, Chat, My Computer, HTML Editor).
The following workaround will make the first security warning (upon log in) go away, but the others still appear: Go to your Java Control panel and in the Advanced tab under Security > Choose Mixed Mode > then disable the verification.
There is also a video clip on how to work around the security validation introduced in Java 1.6 Update 19, provided by Dalhousie University of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (April 5, 2010):
