The first of four medical-surgical courses focusing on acute and chronic health dysfunctions in the adult client. These include nursing and pharmacological management of clients with a variety of medical and surgical diagnosis. Prerequisite: NURS 110X.

After compeleting this course the student should be able to: 1. Discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care and clinical manifestations of acute and chronic cardiovascular problems. 2. Discuss the nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care of the patient with pain. 3. Discuss the nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care of a surgical patient. 4. Discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care and clinical manifestations of acute and chronic renal disease. 5. Discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care of a client with an infection or infectious disease. 6. Discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care of patients with eye and ear disorders. 7. Discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care and clinical manifestations of acute and chronic neurological problems. 8. Discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, nursing management, pharmacotherapeutics, collaborative care and clinical manifestations of a patient with diabetes.
