DOSM 401 Clinical Education I • 8 Cr.

Description:

Supervised clinical education in medical dosimetry that progresses through a competency-based educational sequence. Course totals 165 hours. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the program.

Outcomes:

After completing this class, students should be able to:

After completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Apply the principles of radiation protection to clinical practice. 2. Apply safe, ethical, and legal practices to clinical practice. 3. Import CT images into the treatment planning system (TPS). 4. Review CT simulation data for accuracy. 5. Contour anatomy accurately using the various contouring tools in the TPS. 6. Construct beam arrangements for basic treatment plans. 7. Design field shaping using multileaf (MLC) collimators. 8. Select appropriate treatment devices for a treatment plan. 9. Identify appropriate placement of calculation points in the treatment plan. 10. Perform a dose calculation using the TPS. 11. Evaluate a computerized treatment plan for achievement of the planning directive. 12. Develop and analyze a basic treatment plan.
