BTS 280 Project Planning Tracking and Reporting • 5 Cr.

Introduces skills to gather information about responsibilities and resources required to accomplish tasks and calculate the overall cost to plan a project. Studies the software needed to create and modify a project plan. Projects combine software skills with project management principles to plan a project and keep it moving on track in the implementation phase. Recommended: BTS 161 or equivalent experience.
Outcomes:
After completing this class, students should be able to:
- Apply project management principles to define project management phases
- Develop a detailed task list (work breakdown structure) to outline the project scope
- Accurately input durations, dependencies, resources, costs, and resource assignments using built in and custom views
- Use views to analyze and modify project information
- Use project statistics and reporting to determine the current status of a project
- Use milestones and deadlines to identify and track project progress
- Define the critical path and describe the impact of changes to the project on the critical path
- Understand the various types of task constraints and when to use them
- Identify required resources and budget
- Use views and reports to analyze and modify resource usage and project costs
- Resolve resource overallocations and set resource contours to manage project staffing
- Create custom views and reports to analyze and communicate variance, slack and slippage
- Consolidate multiple projects with a master project and with a common resource pool
- Research resources to solve problems independently
