Introduces key concepts of data management and the use and creation of relational databases as a business tool. Topics include: views, simple and advanced queries, create and modify forms and sub-forms, reports, primary and foreign keys, importing data, formulas, controls and conditional formatting. Projects apply skills to multiple hands-on databases of increasing complexity. Recommended: BTS 161 or equivalent experience.
Outcomes:
After completing this class, students should be able to:
- Design, create, and modify tables, queries, forms and reports
- Add, change and delete records ensuring data and referential integrity
- Find, replace, sort, and group data
- Create forms and reports using wizards
- Select and create the appropriate query to answer specific questions
- Create and modify tables, queries, forms and reports in design view
- Customize forms and reports using application controls
- Perform calculations in queries, forms, and reports
- Use AND, OR, and NOT logical operators in query design
- Explain relational database and application-specific terms and concepts
- Use standards for naming conventions
- Import and manipulate data from other sources
- Perform self-assessment for Microsoft certification skills
- Research resources to solve problems independently
