Business Intelligence Programs at Washington Community Colleges
Bellevue College will launch a Business Intelligence Certificate program in fall 2005. Business Intelligence (BI) has become essential in many organizations because it provides the means to deal with growing data volumes and increased data complexity. BI solutions are focused on identifying, acquiring and reporting the essential information needed to make informed decisions. This certificate program includes seven BI courses covering such topics as Dimensional Modeling, Multi Dimensional Analysis, Data Mining, Data Warehousing and Data Visualization. The first course, BUSIT 105 – Multi Dimensional Analysis I will be taught fall quarter 2005. Students entering the BI program are expected to possess fundamental computing skills, proficiency with Windows, an understanding of relational databases, including knowledge of at least one database product (e.g., Access), and knowledge of Systems Analysis and Design methodologies. Students will work with the Business Intelligence Development Studio that is included in the upcoming release of Microsoft SQL Server 2005. If you would like more information about the program, contact CITE.
Edmonds Community College is offering an Intro to Data Warehousing (DW) class this summer (CIS 256). This 5-credit course will be offered online, and will be taught by Tim Feetham, an experienced consultant in data warehousing and business intelligence (http://www.timfeetham.com/index.htm). This course will introduce students to planning and implementing DW projects as well as business intelligence, data mining (DM), online analytical processing (OLAP) and other related concepts. It is open to anyone interested in this topic, and is also part of Edmonds Community College's ATA degree in Database Information Technologies (DBTech). The DBTech program is designed for professionals with previous business or I.T. experience who want to develop skills in data management. It includes foundation courses in database design, data and process modeling, systems analysis, business information management, systems architecture, SQL and many more. For more information about these courses and programs, contact Eva Smith at esmith@edcc.edu or call the CIS/CMPSC Program Assistant at (425) 640-1902.
