Announcing the new Center for Information Technology Excellence at BCC!
The Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) launched in fall 2004 as one of eleven Centers funded by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. Our mission is to become a state-wide resource for Information Technology (IT) educational resources. The Center will provide industry and educators information regarding model educational programs, best practices for IT education, up-to-date research and information dissemination, instructor professional development, and sharing of trends impacting hiring, training needs, and business growth in IT across industry sectors in Washington State. Information that can make a difference for your students and programs
Where will IT jobs surface next? What IT skills are emerging in other industries? The answers to these questions and more are revealed in the latest research report from the National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies (NWCET) at Bellevue Community College titled: "Applications of Information Technology: Trends Assessment for 2004". This report is available on our website.
 
WA State IT Education Summit: Reinventing IT Education for a Stronger Washington Workforce
Mark your calendars for Friday, June 3, 2005 for our first annual Washington State IT Education Summit. This event is a one day workshop for educators to learn, engage, and collaborate with businesses and other educators on the current and future state of the IT Workforce needs. Participants will gain insight on the latest IT trends and receive recommendations on how to advance IT programs to meet changing needs of industry. This FREE event is open to all Community and Technical College and High School faculty and administrators responsible for IT education and workforce training programs. More information will be forthcoming in our next newsletter and on our website.

WA State Working Connections IT Faculty Development Institute: 8/23-26/05
Now in it's seventh successful year! The Working Connections IT Faculty Development Institute serves the Community and Technical College Faculty with professional development and training on emerging technology and latest trends. The institute will be held Tuesday, August 23 through Friday, August 26, 2005 at the BCC campus.

Imagine Cup 2005: Encourage your students to compete
"Imagine a world where technology dissolves the boundaries between us." This is the theme of Imagine Cup 2005, a U.S. Software Design Invitational. This competition, designed and sponsored by Microsoft Corporation, will recognize students who demonstrate excellence in software design. Teams will be judged on their ability to develop innovative solutions utilizing Microsoft® .NET, Web services, client devices, and/or related technologies. The Imagine Cup rewards students whose skill and creativity showcase the Microsoft Windows® platform and .NET Framework to create practical and unique contest entries that address the competition theme.
