Welcome to Career CaféPodcasts brought to you by the Center for Career Connections at Bellevue Community College!

Today’s résumé topic is "How long should my résumé be?"

Well, the answer is "it all depends." It all depends on how much experience you have for the job that you are targeting. Notice that I said "for the job you are targeting."

For example, let´s say you just graduated and have work experience but it´s not related to your degree or intended major. In this case, you´ll want to stick to one page.

Let´s say that you´re changing careers. You have a new degree or certificate but your years and years of experience are in another field. In this case, you´ll also want to stick to one page.

Now, let´s say your reason for taking college courses is to upgrade your knowledge and skills. Since you have many years of experience in the same field that you are studying, you will not be able to fit everything on to one page. So, it is perfectly acceptable to go on to the second page. But be sure to start the second page with some basic contact information like your name, phone number and page 2.

So, to summarize, the length of your résumé is determined by the amount of experience you have for the job you are targeting.
